Today’s students will need extensive knowledge of the world and the skills and dispositions to engage with people from many cultures and countries. They will need these to be responsible citizens and effective participants in the global marketplace of the 21st century. Few teachers today are well prepared to educate students for this new global context.

  1. It's a true and interesting point you are making. I was thinking about that as well, because during our internship, our practice teacher was joking that she hardly used the computer in class. Maybe it's a sign that they just aren't educated enough?

  2. I was reading a really interesting article on nytimes, where a school in Silicon Valley with no form of high-tech. The school's chief teaching tools are anything but high-tech: they were using pens and paper, knitting needles and occasionally, mud. Not a computer to be found. No screens at all. They are not allowed in the classroom, and the school even frowns on their use at home.
Some education experts say that the push to equip classrooms with computers is unwarranted because studies do not clearly show that this leads to better test scores or other measurable gains.
Does technology has its time and place, and could this mean that we will go back to pens and paper?
    The article is from 2011.
